Crooked Trees is an independently produced documentary podcast from Pink Archive Productions.
A documentary storytelling project about the people, places, and circumstances that exist behind extraordinary events. Season One travels through the American South to examine a story of family, violence, survival, and the forces that shaped the lives at its center. Through original reporting, archival research, firsthand accounts, and conversations with the people who know these communities, Crooked Trees asks a larger question:
How does a life arrive at its most consequential moment?
Rather than beginning and ending with a crime, Crooked Trees looks further back: at family, place, poverty, history, opportunity, and the choices made along the way. But Crooked Trees is interested in what comes before that.
Where did the bend begin?
Season One
Currently in production.
Season One of Crooked Trees follows a story spanning decades and hundreds of miles, from rural Georgia to South Florida.
The series is being developed through on-location reporting, archival research, and recorded interviews with individuals connected to the story alongside historians and academics, and others who can help illuminate the environments in which it unfolded.
Crooked Trees is not interested in simply recounting what happened.
We want to understand what surrounded it.
